About the
Picnic Train
WHAT WE DO
We operate heritage steam-hauled train tours throughout NSW using our two 1950s steam locomotives 5917 and R766 hauling mainly 1930s carriages. We also have a diesel locomotive in our fleet. The Picnic Train travels all over the NSW railway network offering a variety of trips not only from Sydney and the Hunter regions but in country communities.
Our philosophy is simple - when you buy a ticket you are not just buying a train ride but an immersive heritage experience.
WHO WE ARE
The Picnic Train is a non-profit organisation dedicated to the operation of vintage steam and diesel locomotives and carriages. We are manned by a dedicated team of volunteers from all walks of life and backgrounds - dedicated to bringing the magic of steam to all our passengers. Our volunteers are also responsible for maintenance of our heritage locomotives and carriages.
