Our Destinations

The Picnic Train operates steam and diesel hauled passenger train services all over New South Wales to a variety of destinations. We are well known for the Kiama Picnic Train, our amazing one day trip to the coastal town of Kiama from Sydney. 

We are pleased to inform you that The Picnic Train has a huge 2022 tour programme planned for our steam engines and would like to share some of our plans. Tours will be announced on our website when finalised.

We are committed to running our steam trains for the people of NSW as often as possible.

Our train will depart Maitland and head to Gloucester on the scenic North Coast line. You will have ample time in Gloucester for lunch and to explore the village before returning to Maitland in the early evening.

The popular steam-hauled Kiama Picnic Train travels on the the South Coast line, heading through the beautiful Royal National Park along the way and on to the seaside town of Kiama.

Hauling the Kiama Picnic Train™ will be locomotive 5917, built by Baldwin (USA) in the 1950s for the NSW Government Railways.
