One Day Only!

Saturday 5th April 2025

Experience the excitement of a steam train trip behind former Victorian Railways Steam Locomotive R766 as The Picnic Train presents a very special day of journeys between Wagga Wagga or Junee and Cootamundra. Traveling each way via the famous 'Bethungra Spiral'. Listen to our steam engine work hard as it climbs the spiral and look back where you have just travelled only a few minutes before. This is not one to miss!
Enjoy a 4 hour journey from Wagga Wagga or Junee to Cootamundra and return in our beautifully restored heritage train carriages dating back to the 1930's. Listen to the steam locomotive chuff along as it pulls the train through the countryside.
At Cootamundra you can stretch your legs and get up close and personal with R766
A great day out for children, families and friends!
Our restored steam locomotive R766 will be the motive power for most of the Journey, our Heritage diesels will haul the train from Wagga Wagga to Junee where R766 will be attached for the trip to Cootamundra and return.
